Audrey Hepburn’s pearl necklace - Breakfast at Tiffany’s
When picturing Audrey Hepburn, most people’s minds go straight to her Breakfast at Tiffany’s look, with that instantly recognisable pearl necklace. The Breakfast at Tiffany’s necklace comprises multiple strands of pearls and is completed with a large yellow diamond brooch. Paired with a simple chic black Givenchy dress and stylish sunglasses, the costume designers crafted an elegant look, allowing the necklace to truly shine.
Despite the name of the film, this iconic piece of movie jewellery isn’t actually from Tiffany & Co. In fact, many of the pieces worn by Holly Golightly in the film weren’t from the brand. One piece which was however, was the Ribbon Rosette necklace, which was designed by Jean Schlumberger, Tiffany’s creative director at the time.
Heart of the Ocean necklace - Titanic
One of the most memorable, and most beautiful, pieces of movie jewellery is the mesmerising “Heart of the Ocean” Titanic necklace (or “Le Coeur de la Mer”). Rose wears the heart-shaped blue diamond necklace throughout the film, but famously throws the accessory in the ocean at the end.
Although based on a true story, the necklace from Titanic, like many other aspects of the film, is fictionalised. However, it was inspired by a real diamond, known as the Hope Diamond. This 45.52 carat deep blue gem is one of the largest natural blue diamonds in the world. Despite its beauty, many believe the diamond to be cursed as so many of the gem’s previous owners experienced tragedy once acquiring it.
There have been a number of replicas of the Titanic necklace made over the years, including a blue sapphire and diamond necklace worn by Celine Dione at the 1998 Oscars ceremony. Unsurprisingly, Titanic won the award for Best Costume Design this year — plus 10 other Academy Awards!
That necklace - Love Actually
We may hate what it represents, but it’s hard not to be impressed by the infamous Love Actually necklace. While the necklace gifted by Harry to his secretary, Mia, is memorable for being a sign of betrayal, it is also considered to be a thing of beauty to many fans of the film.
