What's the difference between buying precious metal coins vs bars?

Although made of the same precious metals, coins and bars do have different considerations when you're buying them. Individual gold coins, for instance, cost considerably less than individual gold bars. However, this allows you to potentially create a larger collection of individual coins. You can build your coin collection over time rather than, perhaps, buying just one precious metal bar. Then, if you wish to downsize your coin collection at any point, you can trade your coins while still maintaining a collection of your own.

How do I buy precious metal bars?

Are precious metal bars VAT-free?

In the UK, gold bars are generally exempt from VAT. However, silver and platinum bullion bars and coins are subject to the standard VAT rate of 20%.
