How to identify a sovereign coin
Authentic British sovereign gold coins carry small letters that indicate the location of where the coin was minted. The mint mark letters are located on the reverse side of the coin, below the main design, and identify the coin's origin. These could be cities in Commonwealth countries such as Australia, Canada and India. However, coins minted in London will generally not carry an identifying letter.
