Different types of gold coins have different weights:

•    Britannia gold coins: Available in 22-carat and 24-carat gold, Britannia coins can weigh anywhere between a tenth of an ounce and 1oz.
•    Gold sovereign coins: Minted in 22-carat gold, full sovereigns contain ¼oz (7.32g) of fine gold. This makes up over 90% of their weight. Copper contributes to the remaining weight and gives the coins their distinctive reddish hue.
•    Krugerrand gold coins: The heaviest Krugerrand coin is exactly 1oz. These coins are also available in ½oz and ¼oz weights.

What is the weight of a gold sovereign coin?

There are several types of gold sovereign coins. Full sovereigns weigh around ¼oz. The double sovereign, as the name suggests, is twice this weight at ½oz. The quintuple sovereign is the largest, with 1.3oz of pure gold. You'll also find half and quarter sovereigns on the market.
